5th Generation iPod
Also known as the
iPod Video.
Released in 2005, these have a notably larger color screens than the
older iPods and are available in black or white. All controls are
integrated into the click wheel. |
iPod Nano
Available in black or white and considerably smaller
than the other iPod models. These models have the controls
integrated on the click-wheel and have color lcd screens. |
4th Generation iPod
These models are distinguished by the sync / cradle connector
on the bottom of the unit. The front is white in color but the
scroll wheel is gray and the four menu buttons are integrated into the
scroll wheel. The red and black special U2 iPod is a 4th
Generation as well. These are available with monochrome or color
lcd screens. |

U2 Edition iPod
These models are distinguished sync / cradle connector
on the bottom of the unit. The front is black in color but the
scroll wheel is red and the four menu buttons are integrated into the
scroll wheel. The red and black special U2 iPod is the same
internally as the other 4th
Generation Models. |
iPod Photo Edition
These models are distinguished by the color screen and
sync / cradle connector on the bottom of the unit. The front is
white in color but the scroll wheel is gray and the four menu buttons
are integrated into the scroll wheel. Again, the most
distinguishing feature is the fact this unit is designated as the "Photo
Edition" rather than simply the presence of the color display

iPod Mini
The iPod Mini is a smaller form factor than the
previous models of iPods. The mini is available in different
colors and uses the same sync connector as the 3G and 4G iPods. |

This model is distinguished by the sync / cradle

has the four menu buttons lined up horizontally above the scroll wheel. |

These models are distinguished by the firewire
connector on the top of the unit rather than a sync/cradle connector on

PDASmart.com now repairs iPod mainboard solder pads. In the
past, a common problem with the iPod was that when the external jacks were
broken, the result was torn solder pads on the mainboard itself making
replacement of the jacks (firewire or audio) impossible. Other repair
centers simply charge you for a new mainboard and swap it out - but our
